The Senate Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee today approved by voice vote its FY 2019 spending bill. While full details will not be available until the committee releases bill text and report language, according to a committee-prepared summary, the bill would provide “$39.1 billion, an increase of $2 billion, or 5.4 percent, above FY 2018,” including reported increases for Alzheimer’s disease research, the BRAIN initiative, the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) program, the All of Us precision medicine iniative, and universal flu vaccine, among others. The summary also indicates that the bill provides “increases to every Institute and Center to continue investments in innovative research to advance fundamental knowledge and speed the development of new therapies, diagnostics, and preventive measures to improve the health of all Americans.”
