The 2019 session of Training in Neurotherapeutics Discovery and Development for Academic Scientists will be held March 25-28, 2019 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Rockville, MD (co-located with ASENT 2019 Annual Meeting).
This intensive 3 ½ day course in neurotherapeutics discovery and development is designed to equip students with a broad understanding of the various component steps in the neurotherapeutics drug discovery and development process. The course includes a mix of didactic lectures, workshops, round robins, and one-on-one academic/pharma mentorship.
There is no application fee and every successful applicant will receive a scholarship defraying all travel and lodging costs thanks to support by National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke Grants 1R25NS077582 and 1R25NS099170.
The course directors, Michael Rogawski, MD, PhD, University of California at Davis, Barbara S. Slusher, PhD, MAS, Johns Hopkins Drug Discovery, and Karl A. Scheidt, PhD, Northwestern University take ~40 students each year. This course has been very popular, with excellent reviews from past participants. Faculty include a mix of pharma industry and academic drug discovery professionals.
Participants will learn:
- How to identify an ideal drug discovery target
- How best to construct an assay
- The key elements of medicinal chemistry
- How to conduct animal efficacy testing
- The principles of ADME studies and safety/toxicology testing
- The steps required to prepare an IND document
