In 2021 the ANA Inclusion/Diversity/Equity/Antiracism/Social Justice (IDEAS) Task Force developed the ANA IDEAS Early Career Member Award to support the professional development of early career physician-scientists and researchers underrepresented in medicine (URiM). The IDEAS Committee will select up to (3) awardees biennially.
2024 Program Overview
The program will begin in August, 2024 and conclude October 20, 2026 and include the following areas:
- Mentoring: Awardees will be matched with a mentor who is a current ANA member and a leader in the field of the mentee’s area of study.
- Annual Meeting Participation: Attendance at the 149th (ANA2024), 150th (ANA2025) and 151st (ANA2026) Annual Meetings. Awardees will have the opportunity to present an overview of their professional development plan and research during ANA2024; and provide update on their progress during ANA2025 and ANA2026.
- Engagement with ANA: Learn about the governance, committees, mission/vision, and engage with leadership.
Eligibility
- ANA members in good standing from the following membership categories:
- Associate – Trainee, Resident, Postdoc Fellow
- Member – Assistant Professor, Instructor
- Identify as an individual who is Underrepresented in Medicine individual as defined by the National Institutes of Health.
- Individuals who were not selected in the previous round may choose to reapply.

- $1,000 Professional Development Stipend provided to awardees in January 2025
- Complimentary Annual Meeting Registration

- ANA2026 – October, 17-20, San Diego, CA
- Up to $1,500 Travel Reimbursement to ANA2024 and ANA2025
