The American Neurological Association (ANA) is proud of its long-standing legacy as the ally of all physicians and scientists who strive to make a difference through careers that combine discovery, education, and clinical care. As such, we feel compelled to respond to the Supreme Court decision on Dobbs v. Jackson's Women's Health Organization which has inserted the government between patients and their physicians, eliminating the constitutional right of millions of Americans to make their own reproductive health decisions.
The ANA fully supports the Council on Medical Specialty Societies’ (CMSS) position that maintaining the integrity of the patient-physician relationship is one of the foundational elements necessary to providing safe, appropriate, and high-quality health care to their patients. Reproductive health decisions should be private matters, made in consultation between a patient and a physician or other healthcare professional, without interference from the government.
The ANA, along with CMSS, opposes efforts that interfere with the practice of medicine, undermine the integrity of the patient-physician relationship, and limit access to our healthcare system.
We encourage you to read the full CMSS Policy statement.
