We have sprung forward and continue Marching into spring! This time of year is filled with activities and opportunities for ANA members, and I want to share the highlights with you. Be sure to take advantage of these valuable membership offerings.

ANA2024 is Going to be Outstanding

The work of the Annual Meeting Programming (AMP) Committee has created an amazing plan for the 149th Annual Meeting of the ANA that will take place September 14 – 17, 2024, in Orlando, Florida. The ANA2024 website offers details and essential information about the meeting to help you make your plans to attend. The Call for Abstracts for ANA2024 is open now and I hope you are not only submitting abstracts but are also encouraging your colleagues and peers to submit an abstract as well.

ANA2024 Call for Abstracts Deadline is Extended to March 22, 2024

It is exciting to see so many abstracts being submitted. To ensure everyone had the opportunity to submit an abstract, the Annual Meeting Programming (AMP) Committee has approved an extension to the ANA2024 Call for Abstracts. There is one more week for you to submit your abstract or to encourage individuals in your network to submit one today! The new deadline is Friday, March 22, 2024, 11:59 PDT.

International Outreach Travel Scholarship Applications are Being Accepted

The ANA’s International Outreach Travel Scholarship (IOTS) program is designed to help individuals who would like to conduct research or work in a Low- or Middle-Income Country (LMIC) in the coming academic year. The scholarship provides $5,000 to support the travel related expenses to this work. Two scholarships may be awarded each year. Applications will be accepted through March 19, 2024. Any member planning to work, study, and/or research in an LMIC should apply for this scholarship.

The ANA’s Board of Directors leads the organization through oversight and strategic planning. If you are interested in serving as an officer or a director on the ANA Board of Directors, the call for nominations is open through March 31, 2024. You may self-nominate or work with a colleague to nominate you. If you know of someone who would be a great addition to the ANA Board, please consider nominating them. This year, the office of Vice President and three director seats on the board will be filled.

The ANA Celebrates Women’s History Month

We honor the incredible women pioneers of medicine and the remarkable women making a difference in the world of neurology and neuroscience today. As well, we honor the memory of those who blazed trails in neurology. Today, we honor the memory of Dorothy Klenke Nash, MD, who became the first female neurosurgeon in the Unites States. She received her medical degree from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1927 and then trained at the Neurologic Institute of New York under Dr. Byron Stookey. During her training, Dr. Nash contributed to the advancement of neurosurgical practice through academic research. Remarkably, Dr. Nash maintained her status as the only female neurosurgeon in the US until 1960.

You can read about women of the ANA who have served and are serving as President for the ANA. We celebrate all women everywhere especially during Women’s History Month.
