January 2024

Dear ANA Members,

The New Year has begun, and we are looking forward to great things for the ANA in 2024. The Annual Meeting Programming (AMP) Committee and the ANA Board of Directors started off the year with in-person meetings to focus on planning for ANA2024 and to identify strategic objectives and priorities for the organization.

The AMP Committee has made great strides to connect themes of the Plenary Sessions, Interactive Lunch Workshops, and the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in a way that maximizes meeting participant interactive Q&A and discussions of the timeliest topics echoed by membership and selected by the AMP Committee.

ANA2024 will include superb Professional Development Workshops offering daily sessions designed for early career, mid-career, and residency directors. As well, there will be a course for Chairs held in conjunction with the Association of University Professors of Neurology (AUPN). The Annual Meeting session scheduling has been designed to foster discussions among investigators in academia, industry, and foundations toward the common goal of furthering translational science. We encourage you to mark your calendar and begin making plans to join us in Orlando for ANA2024. The Annual Meeting will be held September 14 – 17, 2024.

During the in-person board meeting held early this month, the ANA Board of Directors engaged in intensive planning for the year ahead to advance the ANA’s strategic goals in five key areas. These include projects that promote academic neurology and that convene forums for stakeholders whose discussions will impact future directions of academic neurology and neuroscience. Additional projects will further our efforts to provide ANA members with high quality, in-person and online education and professional development programming.

One program the ANA offers each year is designed to help students and residents. We are excited to launch the ANA Futures Program for 2024. Applications are now being accepted for this longitudinal career development program for Medical Students and Residents interested in careers in academic neurology. The program is unique in that it provides career guidance via individualized interactions with leading academic neurologists. Please encourage those in your network to apply. The application deadline is February 14, 2024.

The ANA is committed to providing resources and information throughout the year to support academic neurologists and neuroscientists in their research and their career development. Online course offerings are fully available on our website through ANA Highlights and ANA Investigates. Recently, the ANA also launched the updated ANA YouTube channel where we can share with the broader community educational content designed to help neurologists and neuroscientists expand their knowledge. We invite you to visit our channel and subscribe. Share it with a colleague and invite them to learn more about the ANA in their quest for knowledge and information.

There are so many exciting things planned for 2024, and we hope you will engage with us throughout the year. You are invited to participate in ANA programs and committees. A call for Committee Service will be launched during the month of June 2024. Begin researching the committees of the ANA and consider applying to serve on one.

Now is a great time to ensure your membership is renewed and to encourage those in your network who are not currently members to consider joining us. We’re not your grandfather’s ANA. Thank you for being part of the Association. With your participation, we can look forward to a wonderful year ahead.

Sincerely,
