ANA IDEAS Early Career Member Award
The ANA IDEAS Early Career Member Award supports outstanding early career physician-scientists and researchers who, through their outreach, mentoring, leadership, research, program-building, or educational scholarship, have demonstrated a commitment to addressing health-related disparities. The IDEAS Committee will select up to three (3) awardees biennially.
2026 Program Overview
The program will begin in June, 2026 and conclude October 2028 and include the following areas:
- Mentoring: Awardees will be matched with a mentor who is a current ANA member and a leader in the field of the mentee’s area of study.
- Annual Meeting Participation: Attendance at the 151st (ANA2026), 152nd (ANA2027) and 153rd (ANA2028) Annual Meetings. Awardees will have the opportunity to present an overview of their professional development plan and research during ANA2026; and provide update on their progress during ANA2027 and ANA2028.
- Engagement with ANA: Learn about the governance, committees, mission/vision, and engage with leadership.
Award
- $1,000 Professional Development Stipend provided to awardees in January 2027
- Complimentary Annual Meeting Registration
- ANA2026 – October 17-20, San Diego, CA
- ANA2027 – October 16-19, Chicago, IL
- ANA2028 – October, TBD
- Up to $1,500 Travel Reimbursement to ANA2026 and ANA2027
- A Commemorative Plaque
Eligibility
- ANA members in good standing from the following membership categories:
- Associate – Trainee, Resident, Postdoc Fellow
- Member – Assistant Professor, Instructor
- Individuals who were not selected in the previous round may choose to reapply.

- Nomination Statement detailing the applicant’s qualifications for the award. This presents an opportunity to bring attention to important endeavors that may not be immediately visible from the CV (max. 300 words).
- Proposed plan of how the award will support professional development (max. 200 words).
- Letter of recommendation from Chair, Division, or Residency Director.
