Lord Walton of Detchant, who has died aged 93, was a leading neurologist and the only person to have been president of the British Medical Association, the Royal Society of Medicine and the General Medical Council during his career; he also served as Warden of Green College, Oxford, from 1983 to 1989.
Walton was created a life peer in 1989 and took his place on the cross-benches. He was a great supporter and active member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Primary Headache Disorders. He had previously been an officer for the group. He often addressed parliamentary colleagues and the public about migraine and other headache disorders at the group’s meetings based on his extensive professional experience in neurology.
Lord Walton is survived by his son and two daughters.
