ANA Rising Star Award | New in 2025
NEW! The ANA Rising Star Award recognizes one (1) early career physician-scientist or researcher annually who has contributed significantly to the field of neurology (e.g., a body of research that is considered inspired, meritorious, and significant, which has the potential to have a major impact on the field nationally and/or internationally).
Eligible Candidates
- ANA member in good standing
- Must be no more than 8 years from completion of most recent training program and no higher academic rank than assistant professor.
- Academic neurologists and neuroscientists Underrepresented in Medicine (URiM) are encouraged to apply.
Award
- $1,000 Honorarium
- Gratis Annual Meeting Registration
- A Commemorative Plaque
- Up to $1,500 travel reimbursement
Application Requirements
- Two (2) letters of nomination
- Primary Nomination letter from a senior neuroscience colleague citing the nominee’s research portfolio and trajectory for major contributions to the field (max. 2 pages).
- Seconding Nomination letter, preferably from an individual outside of the nominee’s institute (max. 2 pages)
- Curriculum Vitae
- NIH Biosketch (Optional, but does not substitute for the CV)
- Research Description – Summation of the nominee’s research that includes citing three (3) recent publications and/or abstracts highlighting the nominee’s research success (max. 2 pages).
NOTE: Awardees must present an oral presentation in person at the 150th Annual Meeting of the American Neurological Association (ANA2025).
The ANA Awards Committee may consider the following criteria when selecting a recipient:
- Novelty, originality, and new concepts in research work; advancement of knowledge
- Prospective impact of the nominee’s research
- Publication record (H index and total number of citations may also be considered)
- Peer-reviewed grants
- Local, national or international recognition as supported by awards
