Dear Colleagues,
April is a demanding time in the world of academic neurology. This is a month of conferences, deadlines and new beginnings. Yet, many of you found time to nominate colleagues for
positions on the ANA Board of Directors. I want to thank you for supporting your peers in this way. I look forward to hearing more from the Nominating Committee.
I am also pleased to announce that the deadline to submit nominations for the Derek Denny-Brown Young Neurological Scholar Award has been extended to April 30. This award
recognizes early- to mid-career neurologists and neuroscientists who have made significant contributions to neurology research. Past winners include Huda Zoghbi, Allan Levey, M. Flint
Beal, William Mobley and Kenneth Kosik.
It is time again for the ANA’s Translational and Clinical Research Course. This initiative was created to spur career development in young neuroscientists interested in translational or
clinical research. The content and invited speakers aid clinician-scientists in an analysis of the development of therapies for neurological diseases. Now in its sixth year, the course will be
held in Chicago from July 20-22. All eligible neuroscientists are encouraged to apply by May 12, 2014.
We are sharpening our focus on collaboration. Many of you may be planning to attend the AAN’s annual meeting in Philadelphia from April 26 through May 3. This is a great opportunity to
meet the ANA team, submit your nominations and applications, or just renew your membership. Be sure to stop by the ANA’s booth, #8 in the exhibit hall, while you are at the conference.
The ANA, whose mission is to advance the goals of academic neurology, can fill a critical need in the support and development of global neurologic science in the coming years. Therefore, we
will gather thought leaders at our Board of Directors meeting and at the ANA annual meeting in an effort to develop new methods to bridge this gap in knowledge and care.
This offers you a quick snapshot of the many projects underway at the moment. Be sure to keep us informed of your latest successes; we welcome the opportunity to recognize your
achievements. I look forward to learning more about your research in the coming months.
