The Oversight Committee works as the liaison between the Board of Directors, the Child Neurology Society, the publisher, and editorial office. The primary function of the Audit Committee is to assist the ANA Board of Directors in fulfilling its oversight responsibilities of the audit and financial report process.

The ANA Career Development Subcomittee was created to develop and implement a strategy to expand faculty and career development opportunities through educational and networking programs offered during the ANA Annual Meeting and throughout the year. Education about Racism and Discrimination Workgroup
The ANA Education Innovation Subcommittee was created by the ANA Board of Directors to provide strategic oversight and, as needed, implement educational and community-building initiatives that fully align with the Association’s mission of advancing academic neurology and neuroscience. Specifically, this committee has been designed to ensure the Association meets the unique and diverse needs of the current and prospective members, organized into the following categories of membership; Chair-Level, Mid-Career, Early-Career, and Junior Member, and International Member. The subcommittee reports through the Professional Development Committee to the ANA Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors manages the business and affairs of the Association. The Board is comprised of five elected officers, the Immediate Past-President, and ten directors. In addition, the Editors-In-Chief of the Association’s journals (Annals of Neurology and Annals of Clinical and Translational Neurology) as well as Chair of Junior and Early Career Membership Committee serve as ex-officio members of the Board of Directors with voice but no vote. The ANA Governance Council (the "Council") is responsible for assisting the Board of Directors of the American Neurological Association (the “Association”) to ensure the effectiveness of the overall governance of the Association.
Improving Mentorship in Academic Neurology Workgroup
The IDEAS Task Force was established by the ANA Board of Directors to implement actionable steps that relate to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I). The Task Force is charged with developing, instituting, and assessing programs and policies that develop an organizational culture that values and acknowledges the ANA’s diverse membership; and foster an inclusive and equitable organizational culture that serves as an example to its members and the academic neurology and neuroscience community at large.
The Interactive Lunch Workshops was created to develop and plan the Interactive Lunch Workshops held during the Annual Meeting by identify topics, speakers and moderators for the Interactive Lunch Workshop sessions, which are intended to focus on a specific topic area and be rich in discussion with ample time for questions.

The International Outreach Committee (IOC) is responsible for enhancing the relationship of the ANA with the wider world of academic neurology and neuroscience that exists in a global context. This includes consideration of countries that are high-income but also a focus on countries that are low- and middle-income. The IOC also reviews submissions and selects recipients for the International Outreach Travel Scholarship, established in 2017. The travel scholarship allows young neurologists the opportunity to pursue their global interests in neurology, take advantage of the excellent mentorship opportunities within the ANA membership, and catapult new collaborations for future careers in a variety of neurological disciplines.

The Investment Subcommittee analyzes the ANA’s investment portfolio in relation to current market conditions, the ANA’s Investment Policy document, and the ANA’s current financial conditions and will make recommendations for possible changes in asset allocations. The Junior and Early Career Membership Committee was created by the ANA Board of Directors to oversee matters related to the retention and acquisition of junior and early career members and to serve as the voice of this demographic.If interested in joining this committee or any ANA committee, click the Committee Interest link.
The Nominating Committee develops a slate of individuals for vacant officer and council positions, which is then submitted to the Board of Directors for approval. The final approved slate is submitted to the membership for a vote. Members should have knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the various elected positions and also of the individuals who have previously held these positions. Efforts are made to increase diversity as well as potential progressions and successions.

This Committee is responsible for a wide range of ANA sponsored education programs, symposia, and awards. The overall intent of these activities is to encourage trainees and junior staff to pursue careers in neurology in general, and academic neurology in particular, to enhance the likelihood of their success in the field of academic neurology and to contribute to the overall education of neurologists and other physicians in the neurologic sciences. The principal charge to the Research Careers Reimagined Course Planning Subcommittee is to plan a biennial course which is designed to further the development of young physician-scientists interested in or engaging in translational or clinical research. The course is distinct from the NINDS/University of Rochester Clinical Research Course, which is designed to focus on middle-stage clinical trials. This one-day course provides selected research fellows, residents, and junior faculty members with strategies for career development and developing research grant proposals that are designed to encourage trainees and junior faculty to pursue careers in academic neurology.

The Scientific Program Advisory Committee (SPAC) is responsible for determining the educational activities included in the formal program of the Annual Meeting, including the overall design and flow of the program, the types of activities (e.g. symposia, poster sessions), and the specific content of activities. The SPAC carries out this charge in a manner that is consistent with all rules and guidelines of the ACCME. The Special Interest Group Subcommittee and Local Arrangements Subcommittee report to this Committee.
